Root Canal Therapy - Design Dental Group

Dr. Farzin shows Kathryn the procedure for a root canal.

Gentle, skilled root canal therapy

Root canal therapy is performed when the tissues inside a tooth’s root become inflamed or infected.

Dr. Amini and Dr. Farzin are able to take care of most root canal cases themselves, and they have a partner endodontist (a root canal therapy specialist) to take care of complex cases.

Our doctors’ approach to root canal therapy is to use a gentle touch and the latest technology for a comfortable, precise procedure. In most cases, root canal procedures can be completed in just one visit.

What is Root Canal Therapy?

Root Canal TherapyThe root canal of a tooth is filled with pulp, which consists of blood vessels and nerve tissue. There could be more than one canal in a tooth.

When a root canal becomes infected, root canal therapy is performed to preserve the tooth. In this procedure, our doctors remove the infected pulp, clean out and disinfect the inside of the tooth and fill up the canal with a rubber-like material.

Within a couple of weeks, a final crown is placed over the tooth in order to protect it. After the procedure, the root of the tooth is dead, but the tooth can continue to function as it is nourished by the surrounding tissues.

Our dental 3D CT scanner is used to see the contours of the roots

Dr. Amini and Dr. Farzin utilize the latest rotary technology in their root canal therapy. Rotary instruments allow for a smoother, quieter and faster procedure compared to traditional manual treatment. The result is a comfortable patient experience.

The doctors also use an apex locator, which is used to accurately determine the length of the space in the canal, an essential part of the root canal procedure.

The doctors may use a 3D cone beam CT scanner, a top-of-the-line dental imaging unit that produces 3D and 360º views of the teeth, jaw and skull. This allows them to see the contour of the roots in order to precisely plan your root canal procedure.
