Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth in Newport Beach
Gentle and skilled Extractions
Dr. Amini will do everything he can to preserve a tooth. However, in some cases, it’s necessary to extract a tooth because it is too damaged from injury, decay or other causes.
As a prosthodontist, a specialist in oral rehabilitation and dental implants, Dr. Amini performs highly precise extractions for a quick, gentle and minimally invasive patient experience. With his specialist-level skills, he can deal with tooth extractions of all kinds, including wisdom teeth extractions and complex cases.
Our minimally invasive approach to Extractions
Dr. Amini utilizes a special dental tool used for tooth extractions called a periotome, which is designed to extract the tooth so that it comes out easier and faster and there is minimal trauma to surrounding tissues.
Dr. Amini will fully explain the treatment ahead of time and answer any of your questions, and he and our office staff will make you feel comfortable. He will check in with you during your procedure to make sure you’re doing well. Patients have the option of sedation, including IV sedation delivered by our anesthesiologist, a medical doctor certified in anesthesiology.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars in the back of the mouth that sometimes begin to erupt in your late teens or early twenties. They may come in without causing problems. However, sometimes it’s necessary to have them removed. Here are some of the reasons why wisdom teeth would need to be extracted:
- They’re impacted, which means that they’re trapped in your gums or jawbone and won’t come in fully or at all. This can cause patients pain.
- They’re coming in at an angle that will cause deep gum pockets and gum recession around the more critical second molars, putting them at risk of decay or tooth loss.
- They’re hard to brush and floss properly because they’re so far back in the mouth, which can lead to gum disease and tooth decay.
- There isn’t enough room in your mouth for them to come in, and their eruption will cause crowding or poor bite alignment.
With his advanced training and many years of experience as a prosthodontist, Dr. Amini is particularly adept at performing gentle, minimally invasive wisdom tooth extractions while keeping patients comfortable.
When a tooth is removed from its socket and the gap is left empty, bone loss can occur, as the jawbone requires the stimulation of your chewing tooth in order for it to stay strong.
In order to prevent this, Dr. Amini performs socket preservation by filling the empty socket with bone graft material. This keeps the underlying bone strong and prevents decay.
This procedure is often done for implant patients to prepare for the placement of their dental implants. Even if you’re not getting implants, it’s a good idea to preserve the bone in the event that you should get implants later on. This can save you the trouble of going through more costly bone graft procedures in the future.
